MUMBAI: Amazon India's country head for Prime Video, Nitesh Kripalani, has put in his papers at the company.

Kripalani had joined the e-commerce major in December 2014 as head of the instant video business and was instrumental in stitching deals with various Indian film production companies and content makers.

"Nitesh has decided to move on citing personal reasons," an Amazon India spokesperson confirmed to ET.

Prior to Amazon, Kripalani was working at Sony Pictures Networks India (then Multi Screen Media) as executive vice president. He was head of SPN’s new media, business development and digital/syndication and was the brain behind video-on-demand platforms Sony Liv and Liv Sports.

Amazon Prime Video, which was launched in December, last year, has seen a rapid growth in subscriber numbers, but at a very high cost as it invested heavily in exclusive movies, TV shows and stand-up comedy content.

Earlier this month, the company announced a worldwide exclusive content deal with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, which experts feels is one of the biggest such deals. It has also signed long-term output deals with five major production houses – Yash Raj Films, Excel Entertainment, Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films and TSeries.
