Government of Pakistan has announced that it will hold auctions for 3G and 4G licenses this April.

The proposal that was submitted by 3G consultants – details of which are available here – has been approved by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Ishaq Dar, the Finance Minister, while speaking with media personals confirmed that government has decided to go with simultaneous auction of three 3G and two 4G licenses by April 2014.

Mr. Dar confirmed that a 3G license of 10Mhz block from 2100Mhz band will cost $295 million, while a 4G license of 10Mhz from 1800Mhz band is priced at $210 million.

Dar said the government would be looking for full payment, or a 50 per cent payment with the rest to be paid in five equal installments over five years, with an interest rate of three per cent.

Cool. So both the spectrum will be auctioned simultaneously. If it happened like it, govt won't be earning more in the spectrum.

Govt is acutioning the 3G and 4G simultaneously but both licenses will be given on different auctions.

Its not like that to have one and get one free

I understand that bro. But if they would have kept an year gap between the two auctions, they would have got higher bid due to competition. Now it will happen same as it happened in India.

All operators will shell their money bidding in 3G and 1-2 will take away entire 4G spectrum in cheaper bid. Same happened in India and Reliance Jio got 4G spectrum in cheaper rates.

Now exiting operator are in huge pressure because some new operators (Saudi Telecom Company, At&t USA, Etisalat, Kuwait Telecom, Vodafone) are also showing their interest in these auctions.

How many existing ops are there now?
If these foreign ops get the license you would have better service.
Now total 5 operators are working (Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid, Zong)

Ufone is govt operator so its sure shot that they will get license automatically.

Warid is out of race because they are thinking to sold out their network, in this regard they are in discussions with various operators.

Now 3 operators Mobilink, Telenor and Zong are in race for getting license and other international Operators.

Total 4 license will be issued. Lets see what will happen?:geek:

Basically govt operators do not participate in auction and they get fixed band at base rate set by govt for auction. I hope same logic works there too.
